Best Full Size SUVs for 2010

As the year is coming to an end, we want to salute the best eco-friendly SUVs. It may be a great time to buy a 2010 model year as the 2011’s and 2012’s are already on the market. That means the old 2010 SUVs are up for bargaining. Even though so many drivers are buying crossovers, there is still a market for full-size SUVs.

The best full-size SUV for 2010 is the Chevy Tahoe and the Tahoe hybrid. The Tahoe holds up to seven passengers and can tow over 6,000 lbs! Best of all, it has fuel economy that beats others in its class. The non-hybrid Tahoe gets 15 mpg city and 21 mpg on the highway. The hybrid version beats that with 21 mpg city and 22 mpg highway. The Tahoe hybrid is around $50,000.

Another great full-size SUV is the GMC Yukon hybrid. It also gets fuel economy at 21 mpg city and 22 mpg highway. The Yukon hybrid can also tow over 6,000 lbs. This SUV is a bit bigger and may have a heftier price tag. The benefit to the Yukon over the Tahoe is that it does seat eight passengers. Other than that, it is a matter of style preference and affordability. The Yukon hybrid starts around 50K but can go as high as 60K.

If you have a bit more to spend and are looking for a full-size luxury SUV, then the top choice would definitely be the Cadillac Escalade hybrid. The hybrid version gets the same gas mileage as the Tahoe and Yukon hybrid but comes with the flashy elements known to Cadillac. The Escalade seats eight and tows around 5,800 lbs. The down side is that it is the most expensive SUV out of the top 3 picks for full-size, eco-friendly SUVS. Its average price is around $80,000.

Get More Green

When we say to get more green, we’re not just talking about better fuel economy and less air pollutants. We’re also talking about money. It seems as though the average priced hybrid SUVs are dropping off the market and the replacements are full size hybrid SUVs that take more green than ever. Here are three more hybrid SUVs that require the green but also have the luxury.

The 2010 Mercedes Benz ML450 hybrid is one of the most elegant hybrid SUVs on the market. This Mercedes has been praised for its efficiency and power. It comes with a 3.5-liter V6 engine paired with two electric engines. It claims to get around 335 horsepower but also gets 21 mpg city and 24 mpg highway. This SUV starts at $55,000 but this is a basic shell to get the full power and technology you can easily get up and over $75,000.

Next in fine hybrid luxury is the 2010 Cadillac Escalade hybrid. This SUV starts at $73,425. This powerful full-size hybrid has a 6.0-liter Vortec V8 under the hood. It also includes many extras such as a sunroof, chrome wheels, navigation, and rearview camera. If that’s not lavish enough you can upgrade to the platinum edition. The platinum hybrid includes leather seats, walnut wood trip, and heated/cooled cupholders. The four-wheel drive platinum Escalade hybrid starts at $87,725. Each model gets 21 mpg city and 22 mpg highway.

Our final and most expensive hybrid is the 2010 BMW ActiveHybrid X6. This may be a top of the line hybrid but it isn’t cheap. The X6 hybrid starts at $88,900. Upgrades can include a cold weather package with heated seats, entertainment system, satellite radio, and even more technology. The extras put the price around $95,000. All models get enormous 480 horsepower but a measly 17 mpg city and 19 mpg highway.

These are some of the most expensive hybrid SUVs for 2010. But, if you’re looking for a fine SUV and are ready to drop some serious green then these are also the most eco-friendly and lush ones on the market today. Go for it!
